Becoming Human by LostMemoryOfADream Becoming Human by LostMemoryOfADream
"Remember our purpose and true identity. From nature we came, not to rule it, but to protect and care for it.
To nurture our kind the earth gives us life, that we may give life back to her. I am light and dark, I am the earth and the sky, night and day, life and death. There is no end, only the eternal cycle of One. There is no separation, only Life. No death, only many forms of existence....and I reside in each."

I don't have much else to say about this piece, except that I put a lot of work into it and I'm pretty pleased with how it turned out. I hope you like it too :)

Really nice work! I also really like the quote but maybe I'm missing it. Where is the quote from or did you come up with it?

Thank you! I wrote the quote myself. Most (maybe all, unless I note otherwise) quotes you'll find with my work are by me. What are you missing? :)

Ah ok nice. So is this sort of how you view things in general? If so that would be interesting since I share a similar view on the whole good/evil idea. Ancient people did not see good or evil in absolutes as "modern" day people have been programmed to. These things tend to be relative to the viewer. One person's good may be bad to another.

Overall, yes. My views are more complex than this though, since this was just written for the artwork. I definitely believe in evil, I don't think it can be denied when it comes to some things, like predators, for instance.
However, I do believe that every thing and every person is interconnected on some level, being that we're all made up of energy and spirit ultimately. Every thing is alive and as humans, the only way or reason we are "superior" to other creations is to be able to care for and nurture them. We have power, but with that comes great responsibility.

I get the sense you are spiritual but not affiliated with any specific religion?
I was raised Catholic and still see that as my base but my views are much broader now. I used to see things as good or evil and even now I may say how something is evil but I have seen enough odd things in my time to realize there is something more at play in this universe. There are no absolutes, or they are very rare anyway. The example you gave about predators is not a view I agree with. I doubt many Native Americans from long ago would see predatory animals as evil either. They serve an important role and if you like puppies you like predators. I just don't see how anyone can see puppies as evil.... or maybe they are!!! :O On no evil puppies! :D

I also don't see humans as being superior to anything really. As far as I can tell humans may be on a crash course with destroying their own planet. Think of it as a test. We are not alone in the universe yet no contact has been made with us. We are still at a point were our civilization may fail. Question is will we rise to the challenge or fail the test?

Lol! Well, you missed the mark that time :giggle:

I am religious! I am a practicing traditional Catholic and I also hold to my Native American spirituality. :)
As far as predators I was NOT talking about animals, lol. I meant, murders, rapists, child predators, etc.. I would never say any animal could be evil, that's just too funny, lol. If you knew me better you'd realize I love animals and nature above just about everything, lol.
However, I do have to correct you! ;) Many Native tribes held superstitions about certain animals being possessed by evil spirits. Thank goodness those beliefs are long past.

But honestly, if puppies were evil, I wouldn't care. I would still adore them :D

Well, again, I see it as we are only superior in regards to our responsibility to the earth. We are caretakers and the majority of us have lost sight of that and failed in a sad way so far.

Oh wow full-on Catholic no foolin! :D
I actually tend to see things more the way Native Americans did even though I was raised Catholic. I always felt the way religion was taught seemed too narrow or confining. I even wanted to study theology when I was just a kid but my parents said that was something people studied in college.
Ah okay makes more sense now yeah bad people suck. And yeah when I watch the news and see such stories I do tend to think some people are evil but then I realize some are either mentally ill or just lost. I tend to see petty people as truly evil or closer to it. They are insidious and sometimes sanctimonious as well. They are the sort who tend to seek dominion over others.
Right yeah I recall hearing about certain superstitions but they usually worked to help keep people more in line with nature. Like if they over hunted people started to become sick and so a  superstition formed about over hunting which isn't a bad thing.

True we have the power to transform the planet and modify nature but a truly superior species would not need to destroy everything around them. That sounds more like the behavior of a virus. There's nothing superior about viruses.
I don't have kids yet myself and I have little doubt there are truly advanced civilizations zipping around even in this galaxy so I tend to be indifferent to whether humanity makes it or not. I'm more curious to kick back and just see what happens. :D

I gotta get some stuff done today so I'll reply back on our other comments later in case you happen to see this before then.

Well, I think it's the way I was raised but I've always seen the commonalities between my Native traditions and beliefs and Catholic teachings in general. There are a few things I disagree with in the Catholic church, but that's never made me doubt my faith, only the interpretation of those others who are preaching it, etc.. Every religion has it's flaws and misguided followers. But the true teachings of Christ are what we need to fall back on.
Ah, I'm sorry about that. I only had my mom, but I was raised that if they wouldn't let me study something formally, we'd find the books or seek out a teacher! There should be no limits to learning if the mind is hungry! :)

There are certainly many variables like mental illness, but even with my experiences with the paranormal there's no denying evil exists either.
For the most part that's true, that superstitions were used to keep people in line with nature, though in certain tribes there was what some today would call dark witchcraft too, usually shaman's gone bad, as it were. :)

Well, I used the word "superior" for lack of a better term and in making the point that we have the intellect and responsibility to care for the planet in a special way. Unfortunately the majority of humans do act like viruses instead, but that's a matter of choice.. which makes it even more detestable.
My kids are and will be my animals, so they're all I worry about :P

There's no rush to reply, we're writing some freakin' novels here! LOL :faint:

Very nice! It hold a lovely Pagan-esque feel, which, while not my own way of life, does hold a deeper significance to my soul. In other words, this really speaks to me. Nod
